For the past year and a half Garrett has been working with Ms. Tori on his speech. We felt like he had hit a plateau with his speech. We asked around and felt good about hiring a private tutor in addition to the speech he was receiving at school. We feel so blessed to have been able to work with Tori. She has helped him with so many things and helped him reach his goals. In the fall we were able to drop his IEP at school and move to a speedy speech program. We have also enjoyed having Ms. Poston work with him at school. She communicated with Tori and they worked together to make sure they were working as a team. JJ and I also worked with Garrett a lot at home. We would sit down and go over his words. We also were constantly listening to the way he would talk. Trying our best to listen for things he was suppose to be working on and having him correct them. Making Garrett aware of how he was sounding to others and nicely pointing it out was key. Ms. Tori told Garrett on his last day of speech with her she would bake him a loaf of banana bread. She was so sweet and worked so hard making that bread for him. We are so proud of Garrett for finishing speech and learning all the sounds. We are also looking forward to not spending the money, having Tori come was not cheap. It was worth it and we knew it was something we needed to do for Garrett. It will be nice to reallocate that money to something else now. We also received an email from his school speech teacher letting us know that he had been at 100% the past few weeks. She felt comfortable having him drop the speedy speech at school. We were so pleased to hear this as well. Garrett was also excited that he wouldn't miss any class for speech. It has been a long road of many years of speech for Garrett. It was a challenge for him and many times brought him to tears because he couldn't do it. Hopefully everything he has learn will stick with him and this will be the end of this chapter for him.
