I wasn't sure what to do with the boys while we went. When we both decided to go, I asked my dad to come be with the boys. He was excited to come spend some time with them. They had a fun time together. They always enjoy getting milkshakes at Arby's and I love that has become a thing they do together. My dad was excited to take the boys to the fall festival at Brommelsiek. They went on a hayride and saw all the small engines and exhibits. Garrett said Grandpa enjoyed talking to everyone there and visited with some of the guys with the small engines twice. They took Nolan to his football game that afternoon. My dad loved watching him play. That night they got Wendys and did a firepit. They went to church together Sunday and then my dad went home. I am so glad they could spend time together. I know the boys will always remember these fun times they had together with Grandpa. We are thankful he was willing to come up.

Homecoming in Arkansas
Over the summer when Lucy went to FSY she meet up with Taylor Conran. Taylor's parents were friends of ours in our BYU ward. His mom Lori and I were friends and spent many days floating around the pool in her apartment complex trying to keep cool during the last months of our pregnancies. The Conran's lived in St. Louis a few years ago and then moved away. They then moved back and lived here for a few years recently. They were in the St. Louis stake and Lucy and Taylor would see each other here and there at stake dances. It wasn't until this summer at FSY when they really became friends. They hung out a bunch and then after FSY his family moved to Arkansas, just outside Bentonville. Lucy and Taylor continue texting and talking with each other. He invited her to come down and go to homecoming with him. She was so excited, and we decided to make the trip down with her. We left Friday as soon as I got done with work. We got there in time to catch the last half of the football game.
Saturday morning, we got up and headed to the Bentonville Temple to do baptisms. The temple opened just a few months ago. We wanted to come down for the open house but couldn't make it work. I am so glad Lori thought to make reservations to do that. I loved seeing the inside of the temple. Even if it was just a small part of it. It is beautiful and I loved the dark wood, beautiful stained-glass windows and colors they used inside. They had beautiful yellow and blue painted details on the ceilings by the woodwork. The walls were also painted a light blue. The temple seemed colorful and cheerful, also warm and very welcoming like a home should be. After the temple we dropped Lori off at a football game for their youngest. We headed to Bentonville to find a store. We didn't find the store but enjoyed walking around the farmer's market. We bought some flowers to make a corsage and boutonniere for the dance. We went home and then had lunch and relaxed. JJ had a conference all weekend. That was part of the debate of who should take Lucy. We figured JJ could just hang out and do his conference in our room all weekend but still be there to visit in the evenings. He wouldn't be available to help Lucy get ready or anything so I figured I should come. Plus, I wanted to be there, and it was fun to visit with Lori. Lucy got ready, I squeezed in a little nap and then visited with Lori while she made the flower arrangements. We both helped Lucy with her hair, Lori loved that having 4 boys. We then headed to the college campus for some pictures. I was happy to see Lucy enjoying pictures with a date. Every dance she has gone to she has just gone with a group. This was a fun experience for her to have a date. They forgot their flowers so after dinner they were going to have to stop by the house for them. They headed to dinner with a group. We decided to treat Matt and Lori to dinner that night too. We headed to a Mexican place they had been wanting to try. It was fun to catch up with them. After dinner we saw the kids were just getting to the dance. We decided to pull in and watch them walk into the dance. It was funny to be spying on them. We went home and Lori made snacks for the kids to have after the dance. They didn't stay at the dance long, they said it was lame. They came back to the house and hung out there. They had two fun barns/sheds that the kids hang out in. One has a basketball court and a big weight room. The other one is open, and they have a TV out there with some air hockey tables and turf for the boys to play sports on. It is such a fun set up for their family. They love hosting people over and encourage the boys to invite their friends over. We stayed up chatting and went to bed late.
Sunday morning, we got up and ready to hit the road. JJ was still on his conference call all day and we figured it would be best to get home back to the boys. We knew my dad was leaving after church because he had to get back to his church building for tithing settlement. We walked out with Taylor to feed the pigs and then they headed to church, and we headed home. It was a quick weekend, but we all had a really nice time. It was a lot of work and a long way to go for this, but we knew it would mean a lot to Lucy. It will hopefully always be something she will remember. She was thankful we took her and allowed her to go. We would love to come back down another time and bring the boys and our bikes. There are some awesome biking trails in that area just minutes away from their house. It would be so fun, and our boys would have such a fun time with their boys. We got home late afternoon, and the boys were happy to see us. Garrett told me he turned into me. He packed snacks when they went to the football game, he took pictures of them at the fall festival and football game, and he had to help with Nolan and tell him to go to bed. It made me laugh. That evening we worked together getting the Halloween decorations out and up around the house and yard.
It has been several months since I have had my haircut. It was time! I decided to keep it long and just trim a few inches off. I love that it feels nice and healthy again.
Over conference weekend we decided to take Jack to Brommelsiek for a nice walk. We did the one-mile loop which was nice. We then headed over to the dog park so he could run around and play. He loved it! We enjoyed a nice relaxing conference weekend. It was nice to have a break from church. I know that doesn't sound good but sometimes a change is nice. We enjoyed relaxing at home together listening to conference.
Unlimited play Gala
JJ and I were invited to attend the Unlimited Play Gala. We have attended several times, and it is one of our favorites. I love the organization and the work they do. This year it was held in Chesterfield at the Drury Inn. They had a nice event space. We always see lots of familiar faces at this event. The lady who started this organization is the daughter of some friends in our ward. The dinner was yummy and the company at our table was nice. The auction portion of the evening went kind of long. By time they got to the entertainment portion we decided to head home. We always enjoy being invited to events like this. It's fun to get dressed up and have a nice dinner.
Homecoming parade
It was a tricky morning trying to figure out how to make it to all the things. Garrett was in the district home coming parade in Wentzville. We wanted to go to the parade but also needed to get Nolan to Warrenton for his football game. It would be cutting it close, but we decided to make it work. We sat at the beginning of the parade route so we could get out as soon as the parade was over. We found a nice spot in the shade. Garrett had fun participating in the parade. He saw lots of people he knew along the parade route. Nolan got so much candy! Being at the beginning of the parade everyone had plenty of candy to throw. He filled up two Walmart bags! Once the parade was over, we hurried to Nolans game. It was so hot sitting in the sun. Some of the kids on Nolan's team were getting sick from being so hot. They had a great game and Nolan played well. He was so hot and sweaty when the game was over. I'm glad we were able to squeeze everything in and not have to split up to make it all work. I didn't want to sit at the parade by myself and I also wanted to see Nolan play.
Happy birthday JJ
We were all so glad that it worked out for us to spend the day together as a family. The kids had off school, so I had off work. JJ's Fridays are flexible so he made sure he could be free on his birthday. We haven't had a day like that in a long time! JJ picked up some donuts after his workout. We got ready and packed some lunches and headed out for some fun. It was going to be a hot day! Much warmer than it usually is the end of September. JJ wanted to spend some time in Forest Park. We started at the art museum. We were able to view their hip hop exhibit for free since it was Friday. We thought it was funny that you could take a stool around with you to sit on while you look at the art. We teased JJ that since he is 42 now that maybe he would enjoy a little rest every once and a while. We looked at most of the art on the first floor and then called it good. We ate out lunch on some benches in front of the art museum overlooking art hill and the pretty water. We then headed to the zoo. Garrett wanted to see the penguins but that was closed. We saw a few outside and then headed to the bears. They were active and swimming. It was fun to see them up close. We saw the apes and then went to the new monkey exhibit. We were all getting pretty hot and sweaty. We went inside for a few things like the reptile house. We stayed until the middle of the afternoon, and we were all ready to go. We stopped at a gas station close by for a cold drink to enjoy as we drove home. JJ wanted to grill some burgers for dinner. We had dinner and then had cake together. He picked out some cheesecake from the grocery store, nice and easy. We then headed to the football game as a family. It was the pink out game and the last home game of the season. We have enjoyed going to the football games together this season. It was a great day and I'm glad the stars all aligned so we could be together. I hope JJ felt loved and enjoyed his time with us celebrating.

Patio
Our new deck and patio project is finally making progress. We were delayed due to a workers strike within the concrete company. It was a little frustrating to sit around and wait. We knew it was delaying our deck progress. We were glad when they showed up! They laid plywood all down the side of the yard to drive their little tractors on. It was nice because it didn't damage the yard. They had to take off part of the fence too. They were able to break up and remove the old patio easily and they worked fast! Jack and Nolan loved watching them work out the window as we were getting ready for the day. By time I left for work they had things framed out. It was nice to see things framed out, we could finally get a good feel for the size and see what things would look like. I know it was tricky to get the exact measurements and placing for the deck. I asked my neighbor what was going on while I was at work, and she sent me a picture. I was actually thankful to be away from the project. I would have looked out the window all day long wondering what was going on and questioning all the choices we made. When I got home from work, they had everything poured. It looked great! I was glad I was there as they were finishing. There were a few spots I asked them to smooth a little better. They were done and had things all cleaned up by time the kids got home from school. We will need to wait a few days for the concrete to set before they can start working on the deck. It is a nice big patio, and we are going to love all that space!
