Lucy was so excited to get her splint off. We had no clue what her incision would look like or how big it was. It looked pretty big but honestly, I was thinking it might have been a little bigger. Everything looks really good and is healing well. The doctor came and saw it and tested movement in her foot. He was happy to see that her little toe showed some movement. With everything he did he was worried Lucy would have some damage with it. It is good news that she doesn't! She got a cast put on and will have that for 2 weeks and then she can go to a boot. She can be semi weight bearing with this and they gave her a cast shoe. At least that is some progress! She wasn't thrilled with that but with the stiches staying in for 2 more weeks it makes sense. Jack was curious about her new cast, just as he was getting use to the splint she got something new. He is still scared of her crutches. We are glad Lucy is healing well and only has a few more weeks before things are back to normal.

Easter
We embraced all of the injuries in our Easter photo this year. Lucy and her foot, Nolan and his thumb and Garrett and his back. We all went to church together and sat in the front row of the back. We took one of the chairs and moved it so Lucy could put her foot up. JJ and I had to chuckle when we looked down our row and saw all of the injuries. Poor Garrett can't even sit long enough to make it through church. He has to get up and walk the halls for a little while. We were thankful it was only 1 hour. We hosted my family for Easter so when we got home, we got to work getting everything ready. It was nice to have our house full and be with family. I love that Jordans kids love playing with my toys. It makes me happy I save them to be played with. Courtney brought stuff over to make a craft with the kids. They loved it and it was a good way to keep them occupied. Everyone left just before a storm rolled in. It worked well to get together during the afternoon. We did an egg hunt inside for the boys. We did a brief clean up and then enjoyed sitting down together to watch a movie. It was a busy day, and it was so nice to sit down and relax together. I felt bad that we were so busy and didn't get to spend much time focusing more on the meaning of Easter. I hope to do a better job about that in the future.
Zoo
Courtney and Jesse were in town visiting for a little while. Lauren and Braden also came in town for Easter weekend. We all meet up at the zoo to be together. We had originally planned on that but then it looked like rain all day. There were some suggestions to do something else but then we decided to stick with the zoo. It wasn't raining hard, we all brought umbrellas and figured we would make the most of it. We were all so glad we decided to do the zoo. There was barely anyone there and it only drizzled on us here and there. The sea lions were our favorite. They were so active. I don't think I have ever seen them like this. They would play and follow your hands. We hung out on the tunned for a while and just watched them swim around. We walked around and visited with everyone. We went into the reptile house, the penguins and the ape house. It was fun to be with everyone and spend time together. It would have been fun to hang out more at dads after the zoo but we needed to get back. Lucy was at home and we had things to do to prepare for hosting Easter.
Lucy Foot Surgery
A little over a year ago Lucy was tripped by a referee during a basketball game. She rolled her ankle and injured it when it happened. She was able to tape it and keep playing the rest of her season. It never really felt better, and she continued to tape it during track. Over the summer while she was attending BYU basketball camp it started to really hurt her. It was to the point she could barely walk. I took her in, and we found out she had a large cyst in her ankle. We had it drained but it filled back up pretty quickly. We had it drained again before basketball season, and they also did a steroid shot. He explained that there were several pockets with the cyst, and they wrapped around important veins and tendons in her foot. It if continued to bother her we would need to consider having it surgically removed. She made it through basketball season but towards the end it started to hurt her again. We made plans to have it taken out. We meet with the surgeon and after doing a new MRI we saw the cyst was just as big as it was before ever draining it. He agreed and felt that since there was no relief with draining it doing surgery was the best option. We made plans to have it done and although Lucy is not excited about the recovery we hope this is the end of this cyst. I took Lucy to the surgery center and everything went really smooth. Surgery took a few hours, but he was able to remove a lot of it and the pockets he couldn't remove he made sure to pop them and drain them. He told me he worked a long time on her food and really dug around making sure to get everything. We got home just as the other kids were getting home from school. Lucy was feeling pretty well but getting around on crutches is a new thing at our house. I was thankful to find a good pair of crutches at goodwill and not have to spend a lot. I took off work on Friday as well so I could be with her. We hung out and watched TV while managing pain, keeping her foot elevated and iced. Hopefully recovery will go well for her, and she will be walking like normal just in time for graduation. I am glad we were able to get this done before summertime and in between all the things she has going on. It will be hard to not have an extra driver. It's her right foot so no driving for her for a while. In the end I hope all of this is worth it and this injury will be behind us.
Happy Birthday Nolan
Nolan was so excited for his birthday! He counted down the days. He made me a list of the things he would like to have. He would shop for himself and add things to my amazon cart. It made my job easy, but I was still able to surprise him with a few things. He couldn't wait to open presents. We had a few minutes before he needed to leave for the bus, so we let him pick one. He thought he knew what it was and picked a box that ended up being a new bluetooth speaker clock. He was excited about it but was now stumped about the other gifts. We made him wait until after dinner to open the rest. He had a fun day at school and JJ took him out early. When I got home, we decided to go do something fun with Nolan. It was tricky to find things he could do with his cast. He was bummed that he had so many limitations. We decided to go play putt-putt golf. We went to a new place that we really enjoyed, swing around fun town. We had so much fun golfing together. We took a little time to teach Nolan a few pointers. He had a hole in one, he was so excited! We had the place to ourselves, and we let Nolan repeat a few of his favorite holes before we turned our balls in on the last hole. It was a beautiful afternoon and fun to spend time with just Nolan. We went home and had dinner and cake. Garrett had to work which was a bummer. By time he put it together that he was working on his brother's birthday he couldn't get off. He didn't work to late and was still able to spend time with him when he got off. He got Nolan cactus and Lucy got Nolan some candy and then brought him lunch at school the next day. His primary teachers came by with an Ohio state sweatband that he was so excited about. His teacher is a big Michigan fan, so it was hard for him to buy anything Ohio State. Nolan had a pretty awesome birthday! We love him so much and are glad we could celebrate him.

Lucy is participating in senior assasin. It is a game that you can play your senior year. Everyone puts in $4 and the winner takes all. They all download an ap and get assigned someone to get out. You get someone out by squirting them with a squirt gun. You are safe if you are wearing googles. I think it is hilarious to see her always wearing these googles. The other day she went to Walmart for a few things. She was walking around the store with her googles on but they kept fogging up and she couldn't see. She got her person out and is still in the game, it's fun to see her having fun with something like this.
I took Garrett to the doctor for a follow up visit for his back. Things aren't really getting better and that is frustrating. He showed him some of the moves the physical therapist is having him do. The doctor said those are way to advanced. He is going to have him do more physical therapy and start wearing a back brace. I am going to have him see a different physical therapist. Hopefully he can start feeling like things are improving soon. We thought we would be seeing some progress by now. We feel so bad for him.
