The Park, The Zoo and Big Smores!

JJ has been on semester break this past week and it has been so nice to have him around and spend time together as a family. After Lucy got out of school on Friday we headed up to St. Louis to visit my family. There were also a couple of optometry conferences going on this week that JJ wanted to attend, so that was another pull to go up there. We got in town Friday night and enjoyed having dinner and relaxing with everyone that evening. Saturday we got up and decided to head to the park to play on the playground. We played there for a little while and then went on a little walk around a couple of trails. My parents could tell that my kids were seasoned park go-ers. I agreed, we love to play at the playground and the kids are good at climbing and running around with no problem. Garrett has especially been developing more climbing skills and recently has wanted to learn to do a couple of new things at the park.

Lauren and Braden came in town Saturday and got to the house after lunch. After the kids took naps we decided to head to the Zoo. We were not the only people who wanted to get out and enjoy the beautiful day, Forest park was so busy but we were able to handle the crowd with no problem. It was fun to see all the wedding parties and prom groups taking pictures in the park. There was a lot going on down there. We enjoyed walking around and seeing the animals. It is fun to see the animals at a different zoo and compare their exhibits.
It was pretty busy when we got there but then people started to head home. It ended up being a great day to go to the zoo. The weather was perfect and we were able to have more people come with us (since Lauren and Braden were just there for the weekend). Garrett loved to see all the animals and would growl at them and make his bear face with his hands. Thanks to Grizzle basketball in Memphis he knows all about the bears and what they say. Usually after he growls like a bear he will say basketball!

Riding a train was a must for Garrett. Every time he would see the train go by he would point and say "train!" We all rode the train together and it was so fun. It is one of my favorite things to do at the Zoo. I remember riding the train as a little kid.

After the zoo we came home and had dinner, we then went down to the fire pit and made smores. We got these huge marshmallows at the store and were excited to try them out. Lucy was really excited about this and so was Garrett because he loves marshmallows. Yes, Garrett is chewing on a giant pixy stick, as if the marshmallows were going to be enough sugar he had to add a little of that. Lucy got it at preschool and JJ and I were less then thrilled see her come home with that.

Lauren and Braden

Hunter Dog--anxiously waiting to eat anything that would fall on the ground.

Garrett was in heaven, he at a couple of marshmallows. Several were not even roasted, he just ate them like an apple.
Lucy enjoying her smore--they were so messy.

We all enjoyed our smores and got pretty sticky eating them. We later read the bag and found that you should use a whole graham cracker when you use the big marshmallows, oopps we were only using 1/2 a sheet of graham cracker. That is probably why we all got so messy.

It was such a fun day, we had a great time doing so many fun things with everyone!
