It has been a short track season for our crew this year. Garrett injured his back doing pre-track workouts and Lucy is getting ready to have surgery on her foot. It didn't give her very many meets to compete in, but she still wanted to be a part of it her senior year. She has made some good friends at track and grown to really enjoy it. We have had a very rainy season and several of the meets that she was able to compete in were canceled. That left her with only one meet that she could participate in. This was the first and last track meet of her senior year. We all went to cheer her on at Timberland. She ran the 100 M hurdles, but we couldn't get there early enough for those. She then ran the 300 M hurdles. She did great, she didn't have a fast run and didn't place but we are proud of her. He foot hurts her all the time and especially hurts when she comes down on it with hurdles. I am proud of her for doing track. The workouts are hard, and she would come home so exhausted from them. I know being there was hard for Garrett. He is disappointed that he could do anything this year. Hopefully he can participate next year.

We had a nice relaxing Sunday listening to conference. With JJ out of town it was nice to all sleep in and not have to worry about going to church without him. We enjoyed sitting around together listening to Sunday's sessions.
Nolan was rocking some awesome bedhead one morning when I went to wake him up.
Tyler was playing Lafayette Monday night. It was fun to go cheer him on at our old high school. I was thankful Christy let me know he was playing there. It was fun to see her and the girls at the game. Tyler didn't play but I am proud of him for being part of the team. I hope that he will get some playtime soon and keep it up next year.
Just when JJ started working at Regional Eyecare they were having a sale on their company products. JJ ordered a few things and was so excited when they arrived. He has been taking his lunches in a plastic Walmart bag. He ordered himself a Regional Eyecare lunch bag.
Nolan has been so hard on his cast. He hasn't been taking it as easy as he should be. It came unraveled and I had to take him in for a new one. I told him that he really needed to follow directions and keep this one together. I know it is so hard for him to not play outside and be active like he wants to. I had to take him to the specialty center and the tulips there were so pretty.
I took Nolan to the doctor a few days later. You could tell how swollen his fingers still were. They took the splint off and there was some bruising. That was another thing they told us the day it happened. The bruising will tell us a lot about the injury as well. They were able to confirm that his thumb was broken. She said the big bump that formed was most likely a vein that had popped when he fell. That contributed to a lot of the bruising as well. We got his cast on. He was happy it was a nice little one. Hopefully he will be able to write a little better with this. He will wear this for three weeks.
As we learned more about the incident that happened that day, we feel so bad for Nolan. The school wasn't very helpful in resolving anything. There was an apology letter sent home for the verbal bullying but not for the tripping that caused the injury. Nolan was pushed to the ground during lunch recess. The kids during second recess then started to tease him about being pushed. They were playing football and all the kids, including Nolan, were doing a lot of talking back and forth to each other. Then one kid decided to trip Nolan on purpose during the next play. He did and that is when Nolan fell down and got hurt. We don't think the boy meant to hurt him and when he found out a few days later that Nolan broke his thumb Nolan said he was really surprised. Overall that day was a really hard one for Nolan. They took football away from the 5th graders for the rest of the year. I don't think they can suprovise it well enough and the boys get too competitive. We are sad for Nolan but thankful he will heal quickly. I was thankful this was an injury that I know how to handle well and within a few weeks Nolan will be good as new.
Thumb
Just as I finished lunch and sat down to watch a show, I got a phone call from the school. The nurse was calling to let me know that Nolan got hurt at recess. Nolan had texted me just as I was leaving work and told me he got pushed down at recess. He said he was ok. So, when the nurse called to tell me he fell at recess and hurt his hand I thought she was talking about the incident that happened during lunch recess. She clarified that it had just happened at second recess. I had to take Garrett to physical therapy soon so I asked if he would be ok to ride the bus home. She said, "oh no, you need to come get him right now." I hurried and went over to pick him up. When the nurse brought him out to me, he was still crying and so upset. I gave him a big hug. I felt so bad for him, his hand looked really bad. She was correct, it would need to be looked at soon. It was really swollen, and he couldn't move his thumb. I knew he was in a lot of pain and so sad, he kept crying and looked like he was in pain. We took Garrett to physical therapy. Garrett was able to find a ride from his appointment to work. We headed to the orthopedic injury clinic. They did some x-rays and then the doctor looked at it. It was too painful for her to even touch it. She said it was most likely broken but hard to really get a good idea of where exactly with it being so painful. We decided to put a splint on it and follow up in a few days when the swelling came down. Nolan was so sad he didn't last long with his goal to not have a cast for a long time. He kept thinking of all the things he wasn't going to be able to do for the next little while. He was going to miss out on some fun things coming up and that was hard.

Animals Aglow
We wanted to do something fun during spring break and I had been hearing about the Animals Aglow exhibit at the zoo. It was kind of pricey but wasn't like anything we have done before. We decided that Wednesday would be the best day to go. JJ took off Wednesday and the weather was the best. That morning, we went and hit the golf balls. That afternoon we went to watch Tyler play baseball at his school. They were playing Liberty. He didn't play but it was still fun to support him. We left a little bit early so we could get to the glow. We stopped for some dinner on our way. We loved the glow! The zoo was so pretty with all the lights. They were like silk lanterns, not Christmas lights. We watched the show they had in the sea lion arena. Different Chinese acrobats and dancers. It was short and entertaining. We spent about two hours walking around and enjoying all of the pretty lights. They had some interactive areas which were fun. Some of the lights that were flowers reminded me of the Alice and Wonderland movie. We really enjoyed it and were so glad we went. It can be hard to think of things to do sometimes, and we were glad this activity was a win.
